Summary

Swagbucks is a rewards platform that allows you to earn SB points that can be exchanged for real money and gift cards.

SB points can be earned by searching, shopping, completing surveys, watching videos, or playing games online.

Each SB point is worth around 1 cent.

The relative hourly rate for using Swagbucks is very low.

Meaning that Swagbucks is best used to earn a bit of extra pocket money for completing tasks that you already do online.

Pros

  • Make money doing online tasks;
  • Free to join;
  • Multiple ways to earn.

Cons

  • Low earning potential.

This post contains affiliate links. This means that if you click a link and buy something, we might make money. This is at NO extra cost to yourself. But it helps to keep this website up and running. 🙂

Welcome to my Swagbucks review.

It’s been many years since I first joined Swagbucks.

And to be honest, I kind of gave up with online rewards websites once I discovered matched betting back in 2012.

However, matched betting isn’t suitable for everyone.

So, I decided to give Swagbucks another try to see if it’s worth your time and effort.

Here’s what I discovered.

What is Swagbucks?

Swagbucks is a rewards platform.

You earn points (‘SB points’) for completing tasks online.

Such as searching, shopping, completing surveys, watching videos, or playing games.

SB points can be converted into real cash or gift cards.

Swagbucks was launched on 27th February 2008.

Is Swagbucks a Scam?

No.

Swagbucks is owned and operated by Prodege.

Prodege run a ‘family’ of consumer loyalty websites, including MyPoints.com, ShopAtHome.com, and MyGiftCardsPlus.com.

The BBB (‘Better Business Bureau’) rates Prodege as an ‘A’.

The company is rated 4/5 stars by customers on the BBB website (view reviews here).

Furthermore, Swagbucks are also rated as ‘Great’ on the UK Trustpilot site from an aggregate of 12,246 reviews:

With 63% giving Swagbucks an ‘excellent’ review.

And only 3% giving Swagbucks a ‘bad’ review.

Is Swagbucks Safe to Use?

Yes.

But I would still make sure that you’re using a good anti-virus/malware suite.

Always be vigilant when being redirected to third-party websites and the links that you’re being asked to click.

If something looks off – just bail out.

Finally, I would recommend using a different email address when asked to sign up to third-party sites.

And do NOT click any of the spam emails that you’ll get.

Can You Really Make Money With Swagbucks?

Yes.

But it’s a fair old slog.

And Swagbucks certainly isn’t going to help you pay the bills.

Because each SB point is worth about 1 cent.

Having looked at many different case studies, it seems that you’ll struggle to earn above $1 per hour on average.

7 Ways to Make Money With Swagbucks

There are many different ways to earn SB points.

Here’s an overview of the main ones.

1: Make Swagbucks Your Search Engine

This is probably the most passive way to earn money with Swagbucks.

Simply click the ‘How it Works’ link located in the bottom left of your member’s area:

Scroll down the next page until you see the ‘Search the Web’ option.

Click the green ‘Search’ button.

You can then use their Yahoo powered search engine to earn whilst you look for stuff online.

Apparently, you’ll average around 1 SB point per search.

This could earn you a few £100s after around 6-months of daily searching.

2: Watch Videos

On the same ‘How it Works’ page.

Click the ‘Watch Videos’ button.

You can then earn around 3 SB points for every 30 minute video that you watch.

I have two adjacent computer screens at home.

Which means that I can ‘watch’ one video on the right-hand screen whilst I do my work on the left-hand one.

So, I’d consider this to be ‘semi-passive’ income. 🙂

3: Earn Cashback

Planning to buy something online?

Then use the ‘Shop and Earn’ section on your main page:

This may allow you to get cash-back on things that you already buy.

4: Take Surveys

These aren’t the most lucrative ways to earn money with Swagbucks.

But you can rattle through a few of them in quick succession.

Plus, a lot of them are ‘point-and-click’ so not too much brain-power is used up.

However, some of the questions are quite personal.

So, be sure to check the Terms and Conditions for each company to ensure that you are happy providing them with such information.

5: Refer Your Friends

You can earn up to 300 SB points for each referral that you make – who then goes on to generate 300 SB in their first month.

You’ll also earn 10% of their SB earnings – for the life of their account.

You can craft and send email invites directly via your Swagbucks member’s area.

Or, you can use your direct referral link.

6: Play Games

Do you like to play games on your phone?

You can earn SB points by playing Swagbucks’ free games.

Or by making ‘in-game’ purchases with Swagbucks’ selected partners.

7: Download Apps

You can earn SB points by downloading certain apps on your phone.

Select the ‘Mobile App’ option to get started.

3 Top Swagbucks Tips

Here are three things that I’ve learned whilst using Swagbucks.

1: Turn Off Your Ad-Blocker

You’ll often be prompted to do this.

But if your ad-blocker is switched on.

It could cause offers to not be tracked correctly.

2: Use a Different Email Address

NEVER use your personal email address to sign up for third-party websites.

Why?

Because you’ll quickly get sick of being bombarded with promotional emails.

My advice would be to set up a dedicated email address.

The same goes for your phone number too.

3: Check the Terms and Conditions

Are you being asked for your bank details?

Do you have to sign up for a free trial to something?

Then be sure to check the Terms and Conditions.

Because you don’t want to end up getting hit with a sneaky rebill from a merchant.

I’ve found that Lottery sites are the worst offenders for auto-rebills.

Be careful!

Conclusion: Is Swagbucks Worth Your Time and Effort?

Do you want to earn a bit of extra money on the side?

Then yes.

Swagbucks could be an easy way for you to make some extra pocket money.

By doing things that you already do online.

But for me personally?

I’ll be sticking with matched betting.

Since it has the best relative hourly rate for making money online in the UK that I’ve used.

Swagbucks – Pros

  • Earn extra money for completing online tasks;
  • Free to join;
  • Multiple ways to earn.

Swagbucks – Cons

  • Low earning potential.
