What is Vector Marketing?

Vector Marketing is a multi-level marketing (MLM) company that specialises in the sale of CUTCO knives and kitchenware through direct sales.

Direct selling is where you purchase items from a company and sell them on for a profit.

The MLM component allows you to also take a percentage cut of the sales volume generated by the people who you recruit into the company as sales reps as part of your ‘downline’.

Downlines can potentially become several ‘tiers’ deep depending on the compensation plan specific to the MLM company that you’re part of.

I believe that Vector Marketing only extends to a single level.

What is the Vector Marketing Job Opportunity?

As with most MLM opportunities – the ‘job’ description is typically very vague.

But basically, when you join Vector Marketing you become a sales representative.

Where you’ll make appointments with prospective clients and try to sell them the knives and/or persuade them to join Vector Marketing as a sales rep too.

As I said before, you’ll make money through the direct sale of the front-end product and from any additional sales generated by the reps that you recruit as part of your downline.

Vector Marketing differs from other MLM companies because they will loan you a set of knives to use for demonstration purposes – helping you to keep costs down.

Furthermore, Vector Marketing say they will actually pay you a standard base-rate when you show the CUTCO products to a qualified potential customer.

The actual rate doesn’t appear to be disclosed on the front end of the Vector Marketing website – but I did some further digging and I think you’ll be paid somewhere in the region of $8 – $16 [source].

This makes the Vector Marketing opportunity significantly more attractive when compared to other MLM opportunities – where you usually have to purchase a lot of stock upfront.

How Do You Get Started?

You’ll need to apply on the Vector Marketing website.

The next step is to schedule an interview with a ‘local manager’.

If accepted, you’ll then have to undergo a 2-3 day training course at a ‘local office’ – or online – to become an entry level sales rep.

The training is unpaid, but you’ll learn how to sell CUTCO products.

Once qualified, you’ll be given a sample set worth $425 that you can use to demo the products and generate orders.

This can be done both online and/or offline.

(More on the benefits of selling online in just a moment).

Can You Get Promoted?

Yes.

There are a few different paths that you can take within Vector Marketing.

Everyone starts out as a sales rep.

You can then progress to Field Sales Manager to increase your commissions.

From there, you can become a Cutco Sales Professional once you have hit $150,000 in career sales and are recommended for this role by your Region Manager – with further opportunity to become a Closing Gift Consultant.

A Closing Gift Consultant basically works with corporations, organizations, and business professionals to provide CUTCO as gifts to clients, employees, and vendors.

As a high performing sales rep, you may be considered for the role of Assistant Manager – where you can work part or full time to lead a local office.

The Branch Opportunity allows you to gain experience running your own office for a summer – giving you hands on experience in a managerial role.

District Manager is the core management role – where you’ll independently operate a permanent sales office within a specified geographic location.

And finally, as a Division Manager, you’ll oversee a geographic area that includes several District and Branch offices.

Is Vector Marketing a Pyramid Scheme?

No.

Vector Marketing is not a pyramid scheme because the sale of the front end product allows reps to make money without having to rely exclusively on recruitment.

Is Vector Marketing a Scam or Legit?

In my opinion?

I personally believe that Vector Marketing is offering a legitimate way to make money using the direct selling model and is NOT a scam.

I say this because there is evidence from the user reviews that I found online of people actually making money.

With that said, there are a few things that I think you should be aware of before you apply to become a Vector Marketing sales rep.

I’ll reveal these in just a moment – after I’ve first shown you some of the Vector Marketing reviews that I found online.

Vector Marketing Reviews

I’ve looked through the reviews and picked out the main positive and negative points below.

But if you’d like to engage in some more in depth research, here are the links to the other Vector Marketing review sources:

  • BBB – accredited A+ rating – 3/5 stars (18 customer reviews).
  • Indeed – 3.4/5 stars (3,600 reviews).

Good Vector Marketing Reviews

I’ve looked through a lot of the reviews linked to above and the following positive points were made in regards to Vector Marketing:

  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Good base rate of pay ($15 claimed in one instance).
  • Room to progress upwards in the company.
  • Teaches life skills such as entrepreneurship.
  • Gain experience dealing with customers.
  • High quality front end products.

Vector Marketing Complaints

I was able to pick out the following Vector Marketing complaints from the same review sources:

  • ‘Taking advantage’ of college kids and their families.
  • Making cold calls.
  • Limited number of people to sell to.
  • High pressure environment.
  • Difficulty targeting the right (affluent) potential customers.
  • Forced into selling to friends and family.
  • Difficulty balancing college work with sales responsibilities.
  • Poor quality front end products.

My Thoughts On Vector Marketing

I’ve reviewed a lot of MLM companies over the years.

This means that I’ve got a pretty good idea as to the typical issues that you’re going to run into.

So here’s what I think you need to consider before joining up as Vector Marketing sales rep.

1: Sell Online Using Funnels to Make Life Easier

One of the most difficult aspects of traditional direct selling and multi-level marketing is actually finding customers.

This is evident from the complaints listed above – with many people unhappy about having to pitch to friends, family, and cold calling strangers.

However, Vector Marketing say on their website that you can recruit online.

This is huge.

Because it means that you can target the right sort of people who actually want to buy CUTCO products.

But you have to do this the RIGHT way.

Because if you’ve tried sending cold traffic to your corporate website for any other MLM company you’ll know that the conversion rate is typically abysmal.

Funnels are the secret to success with MLM online.

Specifically, you want to be using the Home Party Funnel that’s taught in the FREE Network Marketing Secrets book.

If you’re interested in direct sales – or you’re already part of an MLM company – I HIGHLY suggest picking up a copy of Network Marketing Secrets.

Because not only is the damn thing free…

You’ll also get direct access to the strategies that former top MLM’er Russell Brunson used to generate 1.5 MILLION leads for his MLM business in just 6 weeks.

This would be impossible to do offline selling to friends and strangers.

Which is why I recommend that you move your MLM efforts to the online space.

2: Direct Selling Association (DSA) Registered

Vector Marketing is part of the Direct Selling Association (view profile).

This means that Vector Marketing is subject to the DSA Code of Ethics.

As such, you can rest assured that you’re getting involved with a company that is held to high standards by an independent body.

For example, the work of the DSA involves ensuring that people are getting involved with legitimate direct sales companies – instead of illegal pyramid schemes and entities that make exaggerated income, lifestyle, and product claims.

3: No Startup Costs

As far as I can tell, Vector Marketing doesn’t require any startup fees.

Because instead of being forced into buying products to sell right off the bat – as with most MLM companies – you’re given a demo kit that you can use to generate sales.

This is significant.

Because it alleviates the stress and worry of having to cover your initial overheads.

(Please let me know in the comments section if you’ve encountered any hidden costs working as a Vector Marketing sales rep).

Pros

  • Reports of people making money.
  • Base rate of pay for pitching to qualified potential customers.
  • More like a ‘job’ than a traditional MLM opportunity.
  • Popular with students.
  • Training provided.
  • DSA registered.

Cons

  • Earnings can be highly variable.
  • Unclear compensation plan.

Conclusion: A Legit Opportunity (With The Right Tools)

I have to be honest here…

The Vector Marketing business opportunity is a LOT better than I expected it to be.

Yes, it’s still direct selling – but removing the need to buy a lot of stock upfront makes the whole thing feel more like a sales rep job than a recruitment-heavy MLM opportunity.

With that said, if you’re only pitching Vector Marketing/CUTCO to face-to-face prospects then YES – you are probably going to struggle to make any decent money.

But because Vector Marketing allows you to pitch online – this totally transforms the opportunity.

Because by setting up the right MLM funnels and sending targeted traffic to them – you can vastly increase your conversion rates.

Make sure that you ask Vector Marketing about getting a corporate website and unique tracking link though – because these will be crucial to your success online.

What’s the Alternative?

If you’re not interested in MLM – then affiliate marketing is the best alternative in my opinion.

Because there’s no pressure to recruit, deal with interviews, or purchase stock upfront.

Once you’ve got your affiliate link – you can start promoting it online to make money.
