Is the World Financial Group a scam or legit?

Well, in my opinion, that’s quite a difficult question to answer based solely on the information provided via the World Financial Group’s website.

Because the whole thing looks to me like a sales pitch for their ‘business opportunity’ – yet lacks any tangible information in regards to how it actually works.

So, I did some research.

And as I’m about to reveal in this honest World Financial Group review…

There are certainly a few things to keep in mind if you’re thinking about becoming a World Financial Group Associate.

What is The World Financial Group?

The World Financial Group is a network marketing company that appears to sell financial planning services.

The ‘network marketing’ aspect means that when you join the World Financial Group as an Associate, you can profit not only through the retail sale of their financial products made by yourself – but also from the sale of the same products made by people that you recruit into the World Financial Group.

And when your recruits’ recruits make sales – a percentage of the revenue generated will flow up to you also.

Building such ‘downlines’ that are multiple layers deep is the key to making a lot of money with network marketing because each tier propagates at an exponential rate.

I’ll get into the potential pitfalls of the network marketing model in just a moment.

How Much Does It Cost to Join The World Financial Group?

It costs $100 to join the World Financial Group as an Associate.

According to this Associate Membership Agreement – this amount is non refundable.

There may also be other costs in regards to taking exams that allow you to legally sell financial products.

Who’s Behind The World Financial Group?

The World Financial Group was originally founded by Hubert Humphrey in 1991 under the World Marketing Alliance name.

The Transamerica Corporation is noted as the parent company.

Thomas Dempsey is listed as the President of the World Financial Group at the time of writing and Dave Paulsen is the CEO.

Is The World Financial Group a Scam or Legit?

From a legal standpoint?

The World Financial Group is based on a legitimate business model and is therefore not a scam.

However, this doesn’t mean that you’re going to be able to make money easily with the World Financial Group.

I’ll explain why this may be the case in the second half of this review.

Is The World Financial Group an MLM?

Yes.

MLM (‘multi-level marketing’) is another name for network marketing.

Is The World Financial Group a Pyramid Scheme?

No.

A pyramid scheme is illegal because money is made exclusively through the recruitment of others into the business – with no money coming in from other sources.

The World Financial Group isn’t a pyramid scheme because revenue is also generated through the sale of tangible products and not just recruitment.

However, issues can arise when an MLM becomes severely biased towards the recruitment aspect – making retail sales an ‘afterthought’.

Has The World Financial Group Been In Any Legal Trouble?

Yes.

There are multiple instances of the former World Marketing Alliance name being associated with legal/regulatory issues.

For example, in 2000, WMA was fined $125,000 “for failing to report nearly 900 customer complaints” [source].

And here, you can see a list of regulatory issues associated directly with the World Financial Group name and its affiliate broker – World Group Securities.

Can You Make Money With The World Financial Group?

On paper?

Yes – you could make money with the World Financial Group’s business opportunity.

But as I’m now about to discuss in more detail, the chances of making a decent passive income with the World Financial Group is probably going to be very difficult for most people.

The Problems With MLM

I wasn’t able to find an income disclosure statement for the World Financial Group.

But I’ve reviewed many MLM companies in the past, and the income disclosure statements always show that the vast majority of people make little to no money at all.

HempWorx for example, is probably one of the ‘better’ MLMs – yet 57% of all their affiliates make just $122.64 per YEAR on average.

Here’s why the earning projections for MLMs are so poor.

1: Pyramid Structure

The biggest problem is that although MLMs are not technically illegal if they can derive money from retail sales…

The pyramid-based recruitment model means that profits are biased towards those higher up in the chain because they have the largest downlines.

I believe that the World Financial Group offers overrides six levels deep.

This means that when you start out as a representative – you have to share the commissions earned from your retail sales with six people above you.

So it’s pretty difficult to make any money with MLM without building a downline of your own.

2: Lack of Leads

MLMs often tell you to pitch to your friends and family first.

But what are you going to do after that to make more sales?

Because they’re going to get annoyed if you keep pestering them to buy things that they might not be interested in.

And quite often, there’s a lack of organic demand for the product itself due to cheaper alternatives on the market.

So you kind of end up being forced into the recruitment side of things.

3: High Attrition

But don’t think that once you’ve got your downline set up that you’re safe.

Because a large portion of the people that you recruit will quit.

This means that you’re under pressure to continue recruiting new people.

So you’ll probably need high energy and be good at face-to-face selling to make the World Financial Group business opportunity work for you.

Pros

  • Making money is technically possible.
  • Products may be of good quality.

Cons

  • Typically very difficult to make good money with MLMs.
  • $100 start up fee is non-refundable.
  • Possible hidden costs for exams and insurance.

Conclusion: For MLM Veterans Only

If you’re a fan of MLMs then I’m not going to try and dissuade you from the World Financial Group business opportunity.

But if you have NO prior experience with MLMs then it would be my advice to look for a different business model, because MLMs are generally very hard to make good money with.

But whatever you decide, I hope that this World Financial Group review has helped you in some way.

What’s The Alternative?

Personally?

I would go with normal affiliate marketing because you don’t have to pass up your commissions.

For example, if I’m promoting a $100 product with a 50% commission I’ll get $50 per sale.

Plus, with normal affiliate marketing you generally don’t need to ‘buy in’ to promote the product – just your unique affiliate link.

And with the added absence of downlines – you don’t need to rely on the sales made by others to make money.

The rate of success with affiliate marketing is higher too.
