I almost signed up to the AWOL Academy.
But I actually ended up backing out on the order form page.
I’ll reveal why I didn’t go through with the purchase at the end of this AWOL Academy review.
But before that…
I’d like to share with you what I discovered as I delved into the background of the AWOL Academy, what their courses offer, and the feedback from people who have actually purchased and used AWOL Academy.
Here’s what I discovered.

What is AWOL Academy?
AWOL stands for ‘Another Way of Life’.
And the AWOL Academy claims to teach you how to set up and run your own profitable online business from home.
AWOL offers several individually priced courses (detailed below)…
But the overarching strategy appears to be that of using paid advertising to drive traffic to affiliate offers, and leverage the power of email marketing to drive conversions.
What is affiliate marketing?
If you don’t know what affiliate marketing is…
It’s where you are able to make money (commissions) by promoting the products or services of another company.
Amazon for example, will allow you to earn up to 12% of the entirety of a customer’s order when you join their Amazon Associates affiliate network.
You get paid when someone clicks your affiliate link and then goes ahead and makes the purchase.
How do you get people to click your affiliate link and buy something?
This is actually the hardest part of affiliate marketing.
Because although you can spam forums and Facebook groups all day with your affiliate links…
Unless the people that you’re pitching to are interested in your offer and ready to buy…
You’ll struggle to make any money.
How can AWOL help?
AWOL say that they can help you set up your own sales funnel that’s ‘…ready to begin generating traffic, leads, and customers for your business’.
I believe that AWOL teaches paid advertising through platforms like Facebook, ad networks, and possibly solo ads to find people who are interested in your affiliate offer and therefore more likely to buy.
The email marketing component is designed to increase sales.
Because it typically takes someone several points of contact with an offer before they decide to take action.
Some of the higher end courses in the AWOL programme are geared towards personal coaching and mentoring.
Which could potentially help you overcome sticking points in your business.
Who’s Behind AWOL Academy?
AWOL was founded in 2015 by Kameron George and Keala Kanae.
The contact addresses listed on the AWOL site are:
Project AWOL LP, DBA AWOL Academy. (US) 3651 Lindell Road, Suite D513, Las Vegas, Nevada 89103, United States
AWOL Academy Limited (EU) Minshull House, 67 Wellington Road North, Stockport, Cheshire, SK4 2LP, United Kingdom.
Quotes from the pair that appear on the AWOL About page include:
“I am on a mission to wake people up to what’s REALLY possible online when you have the right mentor, and the right business plan in front of you.” – Kameron.
“I believe in the innate greatness of ALL people; that everyone has a divine purpose buried within them. Our education is simply a tool for uncovering those unique gifts and delivering your message and service to the world.” – Keala.
What Do You Get?
As far as I can tell…
AWOL doesn’t allow you to pay a single fee for access to all of its resources.
Instead, you have to pay individually for each of the following courses:
1: Internet Income Explained – $49
According to AWOL?
Here you’ll get 4 video modules that outline the fundamental process of online sales and digital marketing.
Specific topics include creating digital assets, mindmapping, and scaling.
2: Pro Academy – $99
This is the core module.
The Pro Academy appears to walk you through the process of setting up your own sales funnel to generate traffic and sales.
In AWOL’s own words:
“You’ll walk away with a sophisticated business system complete with your own website and domain, conversion tracking system, lead-capture pages, email marketing, and more…”
3: Inbox Academy – $447
This course focuses on email marketing.
Where you’ll apparently:
“…Discover the secret strategies used by the world’s best email marketers to magnify the amount of subscribers who see, open, and consume your content so that you maximize your potential with the least amount of effort”.
4: Conversion Academy – $1,797
This supposedly reveals how to close more sales.
Topics covered include copywriting, how to use stories to sell, engaging emotionally with your audience, and doing live presentations.
5: Traffic Academy – $2,997
This course apparently shows you how to get more targeted traffic to your sales funnel.
Which could lead to more sales.
6: Masters Academy – $5,497
Not much is given away about this course.
The AWOL site simply says:
“Inside Masters Academy, we’ve brought in some of the world’s greatest minds when it comes to money management, strategic tax planning, investing, and more so that you can continue to build on your business success.”
Can You Get a Refund?
The Refund Policy says that you can get a 100% refund of your money within 14 days of purchasing.
Who Can Benefit From AWOL?
It appears that the courses are designed for all ability levels.
Since the lower priced courses seem to cover fundamental topics…
Whilst the higher end products focus more on the coaching elements.
The course structure allows you to specify which level you’d like to target.
Is AWOL a Scam or Legit?
In my personal opinion?
I don’t think AWOL is a scam because it is teaching you strategies that I have personally used to make money online from affiliate marketing.
But there are a few things that you might want to consider before parting with your cash.
4 Things to Keep In Mind
I’ve been involved in affiliate marketing for a few years now…
And I’ve set up multiple websites that have earned 5 figures in passive income using the affiliate business model.
So even though I’ve not purchased any of AWOL’s courses…
My research coupled with my industry experience has led me to the following thoughts.
1: The Premise is Legit
I can’t personally comment on the actual course content because I haven’t seen it first hand.
But the topics outlined are indeed congruent with what I’ve used myself to make money with affiliate marketing.
For example, I can tell you that you DO need a sales funnel, targeted traffic, and a relevant offer to make any money with affiliate marketing.
I also know that building an email list is key to increasing engagement with your audience and driving conversions.
And I can tell you that you are almost certainly going to need help from someone who knows what they’re doing in order to succeed.
Because trying to figure this stuff out on my own was an absolute nightmare.
2: It’s Pretty Expensive
Compared to the resource that I personally used to build my first profitable affiliate website?
The AWOL Academy is VERY expensive.
For example, I was able to get access to very in depth training that covers the same topics as AWOL for $49 per month.
And after 12 months I’d made $10,000.
That’s a pretty good ROI.
3: Paid Traffic Can Be Risky
Regardless of whether you’re using Facebook, Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising or solo ads.
There’s always a risk involved when paying for traffic.
Because it’s been my personal experience that finding a campaign that produces a positive ROI requires a lot of testing.
Which means that you could end up losing money during the process.
4: Polarised Feedback From Real Users
I had a look online for AWOL reviews by real users.
And the feedback was pretty polarised.
The SiteJabber AWOL reviews were pretty much 1 star – calling the whole thing a scam.
But I did find quite a lot of 5 star reviews on the BBB site that praised the quality of the content.
Conclusion: Legit Strategies – But Expensive
From what I’ve seen so far?
I personally think that what AWOL is teaching is a legit way to build a business that could indeed make you money.
I say this based on the fact that I have actually used those strategies myself to make 5 figures in passive income online.
But AWOL is VERY expensive.
And you could certainly find the same topics covered elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.
But in either case?
It’s also been my experience that it takes a lot of consistent work and effort to succeed in online business.
And I’ve yet to find a single product that’s capable of generating easy money consistently with little effort.
So don’t expect miracles from AWOL if you do join up.
- Legit techniques.
- Some positive user reviews.
- Very expensive.
- Some negative user reviews.
Why Did I Back Out?
In my case?
It didn’t make sense to spend all of that money.
Because I’ve already figured out how to make money online from affiliate marketing myself.
And the resource that I used was a lot cheaper.
Click the button below to see how.
I have been making money online since 2007.
By using a range of strategies that include:
Affiliate marketing, blogging, matched betting, casino-based advantage play, value betting, arbitrage betting, Betfair trading, online surveys, rewards platforms, forex trading, writing eBooks, dropshipping, and more.
(Each with varying degrees of success!)
I have previously worked as a project consultant and content creator in the ‘make money online’ and betting system niches for start-up companies.
But I now specialise in reviewing online money-making systems and products to see if they are scams or the real-deal.
Oh, and I’ve written more blog posts than what’s probably considered healthy!
